Video B-roll cutaways: add images or clips

B-roll adds related images or clips while the original audio keeps playing. Tell your mate where to add them, then download the result from her report. Without source footage, she can also make a short from images.

This pro feature needs separate activation. Contact support to check availability.

What to ask for

TaskExample
Add images”Show a close-up of coffee beans when I talk about them.”
Insert your own clip”Add this clip during the process explanation. Keep my original voice.”
Images and captions”Add captions and an image where I mention the price.”
Make an image-only short”Make a 10-second vertical short from two beach images.”

For captions or cuts only, see Video editing and captions.

How to ask

  1. Share the source and request: upload the original video to Google Drive, enable “Anyone with the link”, and paste the link with instructions on what goes where. Image-only shorts need no source video. Ask your mate how to send your own assets.
  2. Review the plan and timing: she explains her plan and estimate, asking about anything unclear. Image generation, storyboarding and rendering usually take longer than captions alone.
  3. Download and approve: open her report link, download the video and check the picture and sound. Request changes, such as “Make the second image brighter”, or approve a version: “v02 is good.” New versions do not overwrite old ones.

Anyone with the link can watch the source video. Once she replies with her plan and the download is complete, set sharing back to “Restricted”. See the caption guide for sharing steps.

Assets and audio

  • Images: she generates new images by default, sending scene descriptions to an AI image service rather than using online stock libraries. For your own images, provide PNG or JPEG files you have permission to use, not image URLs. She may ask about their purpose and source.
  • Video clips: provide files you have permission to use, specifying the segment and insertion point. An existing source video is required. Its audio stays; the added clip’s audio is not mixed in. Image-only shorts do not accept video clips.
  • Image-only shorts: images slowly zoom and crossfade. You can supply one licensed music track long enough for the whole short; it won’t loop. She does not find or generate music. Without a track, the short is silent.

Changes and limits

Name the image or time you want to change. Unchanged parts of the same video are reused, so revisions are usually faster.

To add cutaways after editing, approve the trimmed version and send it as a new video. Background music for talking videos, text-only title cards, free-form layouts and timeline editing are not available.

For upload, processing or download problems, see the caption guide’s common questions.
